Cross stage or X-Stage is a whole new discipline in the circus arts. Think of a highly charged, anarchic free running exercise doused with the tantalising, climatical energy of a pole dance routine part dance, part circus all performance spectacle.
This is a true urban grass roots moment and X-Stage is growing in the way that punk or break-dancing once did. You won’t come across it in the wild until it’s to late and the mainstream has taken hold of it and wrung all of the energy out of it. Milking the financial possibilities until the art form is a dry empty sack – only giving the appearance of life because it has been pumped up with hot air – blown into it by men in suits with little understanding about what it’s all about.
This site Pole Stage is designed to catalogue the rise and decline of X-stage.
The centre of X-Stage development is currently Whitney on Whye – on the border between Herefordshire and Wales. The sleepy rural town hides secrets within its close-knit community. At first it might seem an unlikely place – urban jungles are the normal starting point for youth experimentation – but the availability of space, plenty of large derelict buildings provided the sparkĀ whilst an absentee police force provided the lack of fire extinguisher – allowing the flames to burn bright. All that is needed now is enough fuel for the flames to spread across the world!
